Deion Sanders regains Associated Press National Coach of the Year award after leading Colorado Buffaloes

Hall of famer now has two National Coach of the Year award, one in the NFL and one in college football

Bill Goldberg's son Gage was quarterback for Buffaloes football team and announced his entrance to the transfer portal

Former football and baseball star Deion Sanders has been awarded the 2022 Associated Press Coach of the Year award, making him the first person to win both the college and professional version of the award. Sanders was previously named Coach of the Year by the NFL in 1994.

Sanders led the Colorado Buffaloes to a 5-7 record in his first season as head coach in 2021. He quickly turned the program around in 2022, leading the Buffaloes to an 11-2 record and a berth in the Alamo Bowl. The Buffaloes defeated the Texas Longhorns 55-23 in the Alamo Bowl.

Sanders' success at Colorado has been widely praised. He has been credited with revitalizing the program and making it a contender in the Pac-12 Conference this year. Sanders has also been praised for his recruiting efforts, having already signed 30 players to the Buffaloes class of 2024.

In addition to his success on the field, Sanders has also been a vocal advocate for social justice. He has spoken out against racial inequality and police brutality. Sanders has also been a mentor to young people, both on and off the field as one of the more outspoken coaches in the nation.

Gage A.J. Goldberg, the son of pro wrestler Bill Goldberg, was the starting quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes football team this past season. Goldberg announced his entrance into the transfer portal on Jan. 5.

Goldberg started nine games for the Buffaloes this season, completing 59.3% of his passes for 1,727 yards, with 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also rushed for 351 yards and three touchdowns.

Goldberg's best game of the season came against the California Golden Bears on Oct. 22. He completed 20 of 29 passes for 343 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-31 victory.

However, Goldberg also struggled with consistency at times. He threw for over 300 yards just twice this season and had four games with multiple interceptions.

Goldberg's departure leaves the Buffaloes with a void at quarterback. The Buffaloes have several other quarterbacks on their roster, but none with the experience of Goldberg.
