BHP Invests $10 Billion in Chile

Company to Fuel Growth in Copper Mining

Investment to Support Expansion of Escondida Project

BHP Group Ltd. has announced plans to invest more than $10 billion in Chile over the next decade, fueling growth in its copper mining operations in the country. The investment will be used to expand the company's Escondida project, one of the world's largest copper mines.

The Escondida project is located in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile and is operated by BHP Billiton Chile Inversiones Limitada, a subsidiary of BHP Group. The mine produces approximately 5% of the world's copper, making it one of the most important sources of the metal for global markets.

BHP's investment in Escondida will include a new concentrator plant, a desalination plant, and upgrades to existing infrastructure. The company said the investment will enable it to increase production at the mine by 1 million tonnes per year, bringing total production to 1.6 million tonnes per year by 2027.

The investment is a significant boost for the Chilean economy, which relies heavily on copper mining for revenue. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs and support local businesses in the region.

BHP's investment in Chile is part of the company's broader strategy to expand its copper production in the country. The company has a long history of operating in Chile and is committed to the country's long-term economic development.
